A mission should be clear, focused, and carefully crafted to specify exactly what your project intends to accomplish.

It’s a good idea to take some time to think about the impact you want your project to have, and write a short statement which concisely reflects it.

What are some good example mission statements?

Mission statements can be as short or as long as you’d like. A mission statement can be as simple as “to share an experiment to improve database efficiency,” or as sweeping as Tesla’s “to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy,” or as bold as Coinbase’s “to create an open financial system for the world.”

When crafting a mission statement, focus on your end goal, and aim for clarity.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong was one source of inspiration, but neither he nor Coinbase are affiliated with this project. Mission Protocol is a collective of diverse, cross-cultural makers and influencers in tech and the open-source community.

How do you know your project’s mission is good?

Good missions have many things in common, but reasonable people can and do disagree about exactly which missions to pursue. We encourage people to participate in projects whose missions they feel are actually good.
